Chakras: how balancing the chakras can ease menopause symptoms

I am really beginning to believe in seeing the huge life changing transition that is the peri-meno & menopausal years is a spiritual journey. It certainly was for me. It was an invitation to slow down, turn inwards, deepen my own self-care practices & do the work I needed to do to create a life I was in love with again.

As I started to surrender & slow down so too did my practices. I still love a powerful Vinysasa Flow practice but more & more during the menopause I turned towards the slower more meditative style of practice that is Yin yoga. And then as I began to explore & understand energy & the Quantum I was ready to start exploring Kundalini yoga.

I believe the Universe gives us what we need (& btw no more than we can cope with but that’s fodder for another blog!). So my own personal & spiritual quest bought me to the chakras. I regularly practice a Chakra Cleanse, Kundalini practices to awaken & encourage the flow of energy & now I understand the importance of each chakra not just energetically but also for our physical, mental & emotional wellbeing.

After many months of studying the chakras, I have a much better understanding of them & I realized you might be thinking: I’ve heard the term chakra, but what exactly is a chakra?

So here goes…

Chakra is Sanskrit for wheel or circle.

The chakras represent spinning spheres of bioenergetic activity along the spinal column associated with major nerve centres.

They are not physical organs themselves but they are associated with nerve centres & physical organs.

Chakras collect & transmit energy for physical, mental & spiritual use & promote harmony with your inner & outer world.

They may be dormant or underdeveloped, spinning backwards, blocked (early life trauma & abuse can cause resistance & blocks in certain chakras).

By healing the chakras, we can increase energy levels, reduce anxiety & depression, promote inner peace & harmony, improve sleep, concentration, memory & clarity.

Blockages in chakras mean that energy, life force is not flowing smoothly, whereas weaknesses are inviting an infusion of energy.

Once your life force is flowing freely, you will be in optimum physical, mental, emotional & spiritual health.

I am reminded looking at the amazing benefits of bringing your chakras back into balance & alignment by cleansing & energizing them how many symptoms of menopause this practice in itself helps to offset – better sleep, improve clarity & focus, increased energy levels, lower rates of anxiety & depression.

I am also reminded that by slowing down & inviting in time to heal, I intuitively I knew what my body needed – balancing of the chakras to help me to navigate my way through the menopause & help me to create a life I love.

It’s not perfect or finished – I literally love my life for no reason!

And I believe this is the journey the menopause & peri-meno invites us upon: to take stock, re-evaluate, slow down, hibernate if you will. Indeed, Kate Codrington refers to the menopause as the season of Winter in our cycle. A period of reflection & reprioritising so that we can re-emerge in our Second Spring, energised with passion & purpose, resplendent, looking forward to our best years ahead.
