Menopause & ageing

Oestrogen affects every cell & every system in our body. So when we hit the menopause, it can cause a huge variety of symptoms way beyond putting on weight & hot sweats. It can have a massive impact on our mental health, anxiety levels & general wellbeing as well as changing how we feel about ourselves & our physical appearance.

This can obviously impact our confidence levels which are hit further because on top of affecting how we feel physically, mentally & emotionally, the menopause also impacts the way we look.

Why is this so? Oestrogen produces hyaluronic acid attracts moisture into the skin & helps the skin to stay hydrated, this combined with reduction in collagen & elastin which has been in decline by 1.5% since our early 20’s & it can often feel like that menopause accelerates the ageing process.

Recently when my hormones took another nose-dive I noticed that my hair was falling out in clumps, my nails were breaking off & my skin was dull. It was what prompted me to explore Face Yoga.

After only 2 months of doing 20 minutes of face Yoga a day I noticed the difference – the fine lines around my mouth were less noticeable, the deep grooves of the nasal labial lines were less pronounced & goodbye saggy jowliness on my jaw line as it became more defined.

I was hooked! Now my early morning routine involved meditation, yoga & Face Yoga!

At last we now have a holistic, non-invasive totally natural way to slow down the ageing process & it actually works. In a study done by researchers at Northwestern University in Illinois in America, participants saw an average of 3 year’s reduction in their average age after just 20 weeks of 20 minutes every day.

In the study all participants were over 50 & noticed improvements in their facial appearance & reductions in visible signs of ageing. Face Yoga strengthens facial muscles so that participants faces became more toned & shaped like younger faces.

How does it work?

Yoga mean union. In Face Yoga we unite different disciplines to get a tone, relax, strengthen & rejuvenate the face & neck.

Combining simple exercises to strengthen & tone the 57 muscles in your face with conscious awareness of how we hold tension in & move our face helps us to unlearn bad habits. Meanwhile acupressure & massage help to boost oxygen levels & blood flow to the skin which gives skin that lovely glowing look. Bringing in conscious breathing & relaxation techniques such as meditation help to reduce stress levels.
